Description

The South Bend Association of REALTORS® is looking for a CEO who can lead people, manage operations, be responsive to members, and communicate well with all stakeholders.

 

South Bend, Indiana, is a great place to live and work, with an affordable cost of living and located only 90 miles from Chicago or an hour from the beaches of Lake Michigan. It’s a little big city and a great place for college sports, public and private schools, a vibrant history in the arts, with a performing arts center and a symphony. South Bend and the surrounding areas also offer many outdoor activities, boasting plenty of parks, several smaller lakes nearby, and a zoo. In a nutshell, in addition to everything South Bend has to offer locally, you also have the option to enjoy many main attractions and hidden gems.

The position is responsible for overall management of the REALTOR association. The association is member-focused, and the CEO should know the activities of its REALTOR members and where to find information important to members’ daily business. The CEO will work closely with volunteers and elected leadership on the management of the organization.

 

Governance of Association Structures and Organizational Operations

  • Works with volunteers on the day-to-day administration and management of the organization.
  • Provides assistance to volunteers in the day-to-day operations of the organization.
  • Administers functions of the association as determined by the Board of Directors.
  • Implements and maintains policies and procedures that are in place for operations, financial management, budgeting and record-keeping as recommended by other organizations.
  • Assists with committees.
  • Ensures that governing documents and policies are based on industry models to execute effective association operations.

Physical and Financial Resources

  • Maintains the office location needed to accomplish the mission of the association.
  • Ensures sufficient source of revenue is generated to operate the association.
  • Works with volunteer leadership to develop a detailed budget.
  • Ensures appropriate and sufficient reserves are available to support association operations.

 

Management

  • Is proficient in office management and operations.
  • Understands and supports efforts that impact legal and regulatory issues affecting the association.
  • Understands political fundraising reporting requirements.
  • Ensures staff meet or exceed expectations and are appropriately compensated.
  • Ensures that professional development opportunities are funded by the association.

Member Services

  • Maintains internal communications systems and delivery vehicles focused on current industry information.
  • Provides support to volunteers and provides new- member orientation programs based on programs at the state and national REALTOR associations.
  • Processes professional standards complaints according to established policies and procedures.
  • Offers required education programs based on review of current needs.
  • Knowledgeable of and works with business and marketing tools.
  • Implements industry ideas and member services decisions made by volunteer leaders.
  • Plans, organizes and implements networking and social opportunities in collaboration with committees and volunteer leadership.

Internal and External Relations

  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with association staff.
  • Supports leadership as they identify and recruit future leaders; works with volunteers to forge strong relationships.
  • Develops positive relationships with local, state and national associations; attends local, regional, and/or national meetings with volunteer leadership.
  • Works with an accounting firm and an attorney to support association operations, as directed by the Board of Directors.
  • Supports volunteer leadership as they foster effective relationships with local government leaders and legislators, service providers/vendors, media, etc.
  • Is a helpful resource to brokers.
  • Supports efforts to impact legal and regulatory issues.
  • Provides necessary support for fundraising efforts and member mobilization efforts.
  • Implements political awareness and fundraising plans developed by volunteer leadership.
  • Supports state and national advocacy efforts and works with volunteers on issues advocacy at the association level.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in management and leadership
  • Previous experience in real estate industry preferred, but not required
  • Candidates with experience in advocacy preferred
  • Excellent communication and follow-through skills, including the ability to speak in front of leadership and at large events
  • Prior experience in budget management a plus
