Summary:  Under the direction of the Executive Vice President (EVP), and in accordance with the Association’s policies and procedures, the Director, REALTORS® Real Estate School and Professional Development is responsible for leadership, vision and strategic planning and the departmental operation for the Professional Development department.

Departmental Operations

  • Ensure all licensing requirements for the proprietary school are met.
  • Serve as liaison to Illinois REALTORS® (IR) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) on all member professional development issues.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are implemented in compliance with Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP/PSI) testing standards.
  • Supervise Professional Development staff and RRES employees while identifying development and mentoring needs. Work with EVP to identify relevant training and development opportunities.
  • Oversee department budget and provide updates to Executive Management and Board as needed.
  • Oversee operations of the LMS and facilitate identification of applicable features to enhance learner experience.

Professional Development

  • Coordinate, plan and implement all educational programs for the association (when relevant, pursuant to the Licensing Act of 2010 and through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation’s Division of Professional Development).
  • Oversee curriculum development processes, including content review, evaluation and delivery; introduce new delivery methods, digital, blended and live, to reach a wide range of learners
  • Oversee and collaborate with the Communication Department on professional development marketing plan.
  • Oversee instructor management including hiring, training, evaluation, and, if necessary, termination.
  • Stay abreast and demonstrate knowledge of all aspects of the License Act of 2010 through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations.
  • Ensures annual compliance with the NAR Mandatory Core Standards for Associations of REALTORS® for areas of organizational responsibility.
  • Liaise to Professional Development workgroup. 

            Organizational Support

  • Serve on the Executive Management Team
  • Continuously support, identify, research and develop business opportunities for the department and the Association, including but not limited to non-dues revenue programs.
  • In conjunction with the CEO and EVP, work on the annual Strategic Plan and develop department’s strategic business plan, oversee and maintain all aspects of the department’s budget including monitoring and tracking of departmental revenue and expenses, forecasting and the development of contingency plans.
  • Develop department policies and procedures.
  • Create and maintain relationships with membership and the brokerage community.
  • Provide direction on research needs as a result of strategic planning and regularly survey members based on needs of department, analyzing data as applicable.
  • Serves on various committees at IR and NAR, as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned and required.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Education Administration or related discipline required.  A minimum five (5) years’ experience in the same with documented experience required.  Of the five (5) years professional experience, two (2) years must be in the supervision of staff.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as industry briefings, contracts, letters of agreement and procedures manuals. Ability to write in-depth reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of members or employees of the organization. Fluency in another language besides English a plus.

Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages, and analyze them.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with complex problems involving several variables. Ability to think creatively and speak thoughtfully under pressure.

Computer Skills: Must possess functional, proficient and expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Software including; Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.  Knowledge of various database systems preferred.  Knowledge of and interface with project management software preferred.

Learning and Development experience: Expertise in adult learning theories as well as online learning and emerging technologies. Hands on experience with learning management systems is required.

Leadership Skills:  Although the list of a leader’s desirable qualities is virtually endless, the following leadership characteristics are expected of an employee to successfully perform their job: loyalty, integrity, enthusiasm, flexibility, knowledge, and communication. Must possess the ability to exercise independent and responsible judgment and handle confidential and sensitive information.

 

  1. Supervisory Responsibilities:  This position supervises the following individuals: Professional Development Specialist; Curriculum Manager; Professional Development Operations Specialist; Education Admissions Representative.
  1. Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly sits, stands, walks, kneels and other ambulatory functions; uses fine motor skills; uses auditory, and visual senses. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may be required to frequently lift a maximum of 25 pounds.
