Summary:  Under the direction of the Accounting Manager and in accordance with the Associations Financial Reporting policies and procedures, the accountant is responsible for assisting in accounting reconciliation processes, accurate and timely recording of accounting activity, assisting when necessary with accounts payable processing, assisting when necessary with processing of accounts receivable, and assisting in the closing of financial records on a monthly basis.

General Accounting Duties:

  • Assist in preparing all required schedules for the annual audit.
  • Assist in preparing the required schedules for the annual tax filings.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Preparation of monthly journal entries.
  • Reconciliation of bank accounts
  • Reconciliation of general ledger accounts
  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Analysis of budget to actual variances and updating of forecasts on a regular basis.

 

Assist with processing of Accounts Receivable:

  • Be familiar with and able to perform the tasks of the Accounting Analyst when that person is absent from work or needs assistance.

 

Assist with Processing of Accounts Payable:

  • Be familiar with and able to perform the tasks of the Accounts Payable Coordinator when that person is absent from work or needs assistance

Education/Experience: A degree in accounting is required or a minimum two (2) years professional experience in general accounting required. Nonprofit accounting experience preferred. 

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret basic documents and procedure manuals, as required for the position. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to communicate proficiently with members or employees of the organizations.

Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages, and analyze them.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with complex problems involving several variables. Ability to think creatively and speak thoughtfully under pressure.

Computer Skills: Functional knowledge of Microsoft 365 required, with strong emphasis on Excel and Access.  Functional knowledge of Microsoft Business Central 365 preferred.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly sits, stands, walks, kneels and other ambulatory functions; uses fine motor skills; uses auditory, and visual senses. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may be required to frequently lift a maximum of 25 pounds.
