Description

The Data System Engineer is a broadly and deeply skilled technologist who builds and supports end-to-end technological solutions that address real-world business challenges. This position involves database/ETL development as well as system administration across Windows and Cloud resources. Working within the Product Development group, the Data System Engineer improves data reliability and quality, increases update frequency, reduces latency, and provides accurate reporting, to enable the Realtors Property Resource® platform to best serve REALTORS®. The Data System Engineer can choose to be based in RPR’s Irvine, CA, office or work remotely.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build and support complex SSIS-based ETL solutions that are reliable, restartable, performant, accurate, easily managed and monitored, and efficiently use server resources.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of Database Engineers to transform requirements into solutions that meet business objectives efficiently and effectively.
  • Estimate tasks with a level of granularity and accuracy commensurate with information provided.
  • Integrate deep instrumentation in every feature, to aid in troubleshooting and performance monitoring.
  • Provide IT-related support for Microsoft (Windows, SQL Server, IIS) and Cloud Computing (AWS) resources.
  • Provide Operational support for data feeds, system performance and availability events.

Requirements:

  • Strong T-SQL development experience, with the ability to tune, re-write or create from scratch complex queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, etc.
  • Strong SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) development skills, with a keen understanding of package design, logging, orchestration, etc.
  • Proficiency with database/server performance analysis tools such as Profiler, Performance Monitor, SolarWinds DPA, QueryStore, etc.
  • Good experience with Windows System Administration: Windows Server 2019+, SQL Server 2016+, IIS, basic networking/firewall troubleshooting, AD/Windows/SQL security administration, etc.
  • Results-oriented, able to prioritize and deliver results. Strong work ethic and can-do attitude.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Drive to constantly improve reliability, performance and accuracy and to refine and automate routine, labor-intensive processes.
  • Passionate about writing high-performance, reliable, scalable and maintainable code.
  • Security mindset, necessary to safeguard data and complex systems.
  • Availability on nights and weekends as needed to support data operations and highly-available systems with >99.99% uptime. After-hours events are not common, but a willingness to jump in when needed is required.
  • Operate independently when required, taking ownership of a project and running with it through completion with minimal supervision.

Desired:

  •  
  • Experience with business intelligence/data visualization products like SSAS, PowerBI, AWS QuickSight, Splunk, Tableau, etc.
  • Experience interpreting results from load tests (Windows OS, SQL) to pinpoint performance challenges prior to production release.
  • Experience with SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Disaster Recovery.
  • Experience managing and tuning SQL server in a virtualized/Cloud environment.
  • Experience with Visual Studio/GIT or similar source control repository.
  • Experience with database performance monitoring tools such as SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer (DPA/Ignite), etc.
  • Experience with highly-configurable enterprise-class monitoring tools such as SolarWinds SAM, Tivoli, PRTG, Nagios, ManageEngine, etc.
  • Experience with cloud services such as specialized data storage, caching, business intelligence reporting, etc. Amazon Web Services (AWS) a plus!

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field from a 4-year college or university
  • 5+ years of proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or later and SSIS
  • 3+ years of experience in system administration/engineering.

Pay Range:

  • $105,000-$135,000 base salary, commensurate with experience
